A thrill with FT-7800 and magnifying glasses

Current mood:
A year ago I got two of these cheap, small and featurepacked duobanders from Yaesu that are called FT-7800. What I like about them is that they fit into the small console between the chairs in my ancient car.:)

But now I thought just for the fun of it (and to keep the tradition up) to do a little research about the configuration of them.

First of all, with a lot of memories occupied there’s a need for a good memory management software. But not all can handle trancievers of different versions. However, G4HFQ has made some very good software for this (wich unfortunately is only available for operating systems from Microsoft®, and also protected with an insanely long serial code). Despite some mess with the installation, this software makes it possible to read out the rig, and write it back into a different configured rig.

So next step was to dig into the available information about the configuration and it seems like DO3MBA Michael Bernd Agert from Germany is the one that has gathered the most useful information in one sheet, and that sheet is already available at many places on the web like the messed up site mods.dk and DO2TE’s site. Thanks:)

NOW DON’T USE THIS INFORMATION UNRESPONSIBLY! As always I share it because I believe that the radios capabilities should be avaliable fully, and not restricted so that the responsibility for the usage is on the operator and not decided for her/him by someone else.

With the document FT-7800Tab in hand, nerves of steel, a really steady hand, and patience it was finally possible to reconfigure one of these from being a C2 version to a C3 version successfully.:D

But it sure wasn’t easy!:P
