A thrill with FT-7800 and magnifying glasses

A year ago I got two of these cheap, small and featurepacked duobanders from Yaesu that are called FT-7800. What I like about them is that they fit into the small console between the chairs in my ancient car.![]()
But now I thought just for the fun of it (and to keep the tradition up) to do a little research about the configuration of them.

In the search of a good, cheap, modern, flexible and well performing dual band rig with two receivers in, my choice fell onto the Kenwood TM-V71E after having looked on what “the three big companies” had to offer.
Only the Yaesu FT-8800 was a resonable alternative actually. But it doesn’t have backlit buttons, and the memory management isn’t as flexible. For better memory management I’d have to get the even older FT-8900 for more bucks. And Icom®… wayyyy too expensive!
Of course there are also some other interesting, more technical aspects involved… so hold your solder irons gentlemen
